Mold, Algae and Fungus on the Roof
When giving Roof Estimates you may
encounter roofs that are covered in Moss, Mold, Algae or Fungus. And
will probably be faced with the question of whether or not these can
be removed or whether or not the roof needs to be replaced.
There will be quite a few different things to consider in order to
come up with the correct answer.
Things to
Consider.
-How severe is the moss?
-Is the moss all over the whole roof, or just a couple sides?
-If the moss is removed what will be the condition of the roof then?
-If the Moss is removed what will prevent it from coming back.
-How old is the roof?
-How much longer do you think the roof will last?
-If the moss is removed what will it cost and is it worth spending
this money to have
it removed or use it toward having a new roof applied.
Ways to remove the moss from the roof.
-Install
zinc strips, along the ridge of the roof, when water runs over them
they create zinc oxide that runs down the roof and prevents growth
from occuring.
These
strips form harmless zinc oxide when rainwater runs over them, and
as the water rolls down the roof, it carries with it a protective
coating that prevents growth from occurring,"
Cut back all trees from the roof to allow sunlight to shine on the
roof and improve air circulation.
